Oral Appliance Therapy

for Snoring and Sleep Apnoea

Located in the heart of Wellington, the Sleep Matters Clinic specialises in Oral Appliance Therapy for the treatment of Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.

Provided by a qualified dentist trained in Dental Sleep Medicine, our custom-made appliances are medically proven, comfortable and effective.

CPAP and uncomfortable over-the-counter devices are no longer your only option.

Good Sleep - Matters!

When it comes to health, sleep is just as important as exercise and nutrition. A lack of quality, refreshing sleep has a huge impact on every aspect of our lives, wreaking havoc on our relationships, work, energy levels and health (both body and mind). In short, good sleep - matters!

At Sleep Matters we are dedicated to giving quality sleep back to people (and their bed partners!) suffering from snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea. We do this through the use of state-of-the-art, fully adjustable, custom-made Oral Appliances. Our clinic utilises advanced digital technology (no need for uncomfortable impressions) and 3D printing to provide a treatment option that is medically proven, comfortable, low maintenance, silent and an effective alternative to CPAP.

  • No machines and no tubes! Thanks to advances in technology, Oral Appliances are extremely thin (about 1mm), easy to use and very comfortable.

  • Oral Appliances are small and don’t make any noise so won’t disturb you or your bed partner.

  • Unlike CPAP, Oral Appliances do not require distilled water or electricity. They are easy to travel with and great for overnight stays or camping trips.

  • Experts agree that custom-made Oral Appliances are the best treatment available for snoring, and a comfortable, firstline treatment for Sleep Apnoea.

  • Most people find Oral Appliance Therapy much less cumbersome than CPAP resulting in higher levels of satisfaction and compliance.

What We Offer

  • FREE SCREENING

We provide free in-person and virtual screening appointments to assess your risk of sleep apnoea, see if you are suitable for an Oral Appliance (most people are!) and figure out how we can help you get the quality sleep you deserve.

  • EXPERT CARE

Dr Jessica Harris is a NZ qualified dentist and has completed extensive training in Oral Appliance Therapy through the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine. She brings expert guidance and personalised care to her patients.

  • 3 MONTH TRIAL

The vast majority of our patients are more than happy with the improvement of their snoring and sleep. If, however, within 3 months you are not satisfied with the results of your Oral Appliance, you can return it and get a refund of 80% of your treatment fee.

Our Process

  • Step 1 : FREE online or in-clinic Screening

More than 70% of people who snore also have sleep apnoea, but most have no idea that they suffer from this serious medical disorder.

Sleep Matters has made it as easy as possible for you to see if you are at risk.

Simply book an appointment to see Dr Jess for a chat, or let us know if you would prefer a virtual appointment - all free of charge!

  • Step 2 : At Home Sleep Study

Sleep Matters offers a non-invasive sleep test that is easily done in the comfort of your own home, and includes an official diagnosis from a specialist Sleep Physician (which is important when dealing with this serious medical condition).

The method we use is user-friendly, affordable, convenient and an important step in your journey towards better sleep and better health.

  • Step 3 : Custom Oral Appliance

Sleep Matters is proud to use the latest digital 3D scanning technology and state-of-the-art materials to provide custom-made Oral Appliances that are accurate, comfortable, practically indestructible in the mouth and actually work!

Over the counter, ‘one size fits all’ devices are bulky, uncomfortable, not scientifically proven, ineffective and are not recommended by experts.

Dr Jessica Harris

“There is something very special about seeing the transformation in the people we treat - from sleep deprived, sleeping in a different room to their partner because of snoring, struggling with sleep related health problems - to well rested, back in the same bed after many years, and an improvement in their over-all health and wellbeing” - Dr Jess.

Recognising that the effects of sleep disordered breathing can affect every part of life - including your health, relationships, work and overall well-being, Dr Jess takes great satisfaction in helping her patients appropriately and effectively manage their snoring and sleep apnoea.

Since graduating from the University of Otago with a Bachelor in Dental Surgery (with distinction), and with over 14 years experience as a dentist, Dr Jess has undergone extensive training in Dental Sleep Medicine through the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (AADSM) to provide effective Oral Appliance Therapy for the management of sleep apnoea and snoring.

Discover how we can help you

No one should have to choose between sleeping or breathing.

Do you wake up feeling drained despite a full night’s sleep - leaving you exhausted throughout the day? Has anyone told you that you gasp or choke during the night? Does your bed partner struggle to sleep due to your loud snoring? If this sounds familiar, you could be suffering from obstructive sleep apnoea.

Sleep apnoea is a serious health disorder in which your breathing repeatedly stops and starts while you are asleep. This impacts every part of your health and has many negative outcomes on both your body and mind. It is a common disorder, although most people don’t realise they are affected by it.

Although CPAP has been the traditional treatment of choice, experts in the field now consider Oral Appliance Therapy to be the best treatment available to stop snoring, a frontline, comfortable solution for patients who suffer from mild or moderate sleep apnoea, and an effective option for those with severe sleep apnoea who struggle to use a CPAP machine.
