Snoring

Snoring is more than just a sound that occurs during sleep…

  • Why is snoring a problem?

Snoring affects many of us and can be both embarrassing and disruptive. It can have a huge impact on relationships, with many couples sleeping in separate bedrooms and even booking different rooms when travelling. Sharing a bed (or home!) with someone who snores can lead to conflict and frustrations due to disturbed sleep. Tired people tend to be more irritable and short-tempered than those who get regular, healthy sleep.

  • What is snoring?

Snoring is caused by the vibrations of the soft tissues at the back of your throat as you breathe while sleeping. It has been linked with sleep deprivation, daytime drowsiness, irritability, lack of focus and decreased libido. It is not uncommon for people to ignore their snoring, however evidence suggests that snoring will get worse over time if left untreated, and can be a sign of a more serious medical condition called obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA).

  • How can snoring be stopped?

Experts (and bed partners!) agree that Oral Appliance Therapy is the best treatment for snoring. Oral appliances are worn when you are sleeping, and work by supporting the jaw slightly forward, preventing the soft tissues at the back of the throat (eg: the tongue) from collapsing and obstructing the airway.

Custom-made Oral Appliances are comfortable, discreet and silent.
